No “GOLF” does not stand for "Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden“
That's a common old wives' tale or maybe, in this case, an old husband's tale. The word “golf" actually derives from medieval Dutch and old Scots. (The medieval Dutch word "kolf" or "kolve" meant "club." It is believed that word passed to the Scots, whose old Scots dialect transformed the word into "golve," "gowl" or "gouf." By the 16th Century, the word "golf" had emerged. *)
At Royal St. Cloud Golf Links, women are definitely not forbidden from picking up that beloved golf club and smacking a ball down the fairway. Quite the opposite. We have active Womens’ Leagues here. We host a couple women-only golf events, one of which is named “The Corrine” after Bill Filson’s mother, Corrine Filson who was an avid golfer her entire adult life.
Just like Corrine, women know that there is something so relaxing and enjoyable about setting out to playing a round of golf, getting another valuable golf lesson or hitting a bucket of balls. What other sport is so relaxing as golf? Golf gets you away from the hustle and bustle of life and outside! Ah, wonderful outside. A place you don’t have to “look after” anything but a little white ball!

We are the most friendly golf course for women golfers in the Orlando area for so many reasons:
- Over a third of our 2,400 square foot Golf Shop is dedicated to Women’s fashionable golf clothing, shoes and accessories (even greeting cards)
- The course itself has five sets of tees which means there are choices for women—no “Ladies Tees” here
- We hold “No Embarassment” Women’s Golf Clinics throughout the year
- Our golf instructors are wonderful for women golfers
- Here Women’s Leagues are active and enjoyable
- Course tournaments welcome participation from women. One tournament in particular was designed just for women—“The Corrine” held in November each year
- We responded to our women’s suggestions and built the fanciest restrooms that any golf course around could ever dream of!
